By rediscovering forgotten repertoire, encouraging composers to write new pieces, connecting theatre, literature and music through cooperations with actors – the POQ strives to define new avenues within the classical music scene.

  • The POQ, founded in 2016 by Christoph Hartmann (oboe), Luíz Fïlíp Coelho (violin), Walter Küssner (viola) and Clemens Weigel (cello), features a unique combination of a string trio and oboe. The remarkable combination of string and wind instruments in the small cast allows for each one of them to thrive and find its own rightful place. Thus making a performance of the four virtuosi an exceptional and exciting experience.

The musicians were brought together by more than just a shared vision. As long-time friends and colleagues, they have been performing and touring the world in various ensembles throughout the years together.

The inspiration for POQ can be traced back to a performance they did of an oboe quartet version of Mozart’s The Magic Flute by Franz Joseph Rosinack at the Landsberger Sommer Musiken in 2016. They have since then performed at numerous concert halls and festivals in Germany, Italy, Brazil and the USA, and will make its debut appearance in Japan in autumn of 2019. This occasion will also mark the release of the quartet’s first recording, a throwback to their origins: Rosinack’s version of The Magic Flute.
